What is Special about the X35 Search Coil?

The ORX comes with a nine-inch X35 search coil. There are three sizes for the X35 coils ranging from

  • 9 inches
  • 11 inches
  • 11×13 inch

These have a frequency range of 3.7 to 27.7 kHz, totaling 35 frequencies. The sensitivity of these frequencies helps you differentiate what metals your detector is finding. This capability means you can easily discern if the metal is iron or tin, compared to gold, which will give you a higher frequency.

The nice thing about the ORX model is that all 5 XP search coils are interchangeable with the device. Aside from the X35 coils, two other HF coils have a higher frequency range that can go up to 80kHZ.

What is Special About the MI 6 Pinpointer?

The MI 6 pinpointer is the world’s most advanced pinpointer. It can be used alone or paired with the ORX detector. It is also waterproof, and it has two audio modes. Most pinpointers only use pulse, but the MI 6 also has a pitch mode that makes it easier to locate the target.

The XP MI 6 Pinpointer

Because the MI 6 is wireless, it pairs easily with the FX-O2 headphones and the ORX metal detector with just the push of a button. When it is in use, the ORX will automatically turn off, so you can hear the pinpointer through the headphones or the ORX remote.

Another great feature that XP added to the MI 6 Pinpointer is the locator. Suppose you lose your MI 6 while prospecting; use the research button on your ORX remote. This signal will wake up your pinpointer, making a sound until you locate it.

What’s Special About the ORX Wireless Pairing?

The wireless pairing built into the XP ORX is convenient. The ORX wireless pairing can sink the following pieces of equipment together for accurate metal detecting:

You do not need to remove your headphones when using the pinpointer. The minute your pinpointer is activated, the other devices switch to it. Because it is wireless technology, there are fewer points on the XP ORX to become damaged.

Soon you will be able to pair your Android or iPhone with the XP ORX through an app called “Go Terrain.” This app will help you map and record your finds in the field.

Why is the ORX Remote Special?

The ORX remote has special features to make gold hunting easier than ever. This XP ORX remote control, or control module, is programmed with six programs to allow you to detect any terrain.

Of these six programs, the remote control has:

  • A gold mode that is useful for somewhat mineralized ground. With this mode, you will be able to find gold nuggets of medium to large size.
  • Fine Gold Mode is best for terrain with high mineralization. You’ll be able to find small gold targets with this mode easily.
  • Coin Fast is great for locating any target in iron and mineralized fields.
  • Coin Deep is useful when your targets are deep in low mineralized ground.
  • The other two modes are left blank for you to input customizable programming.

The ORX remote pairs seamlessly with the wireless MI 6 pinpointer wand and FX-02 headphones. You can mount the remote to the S shaft. You can also carry it in your pocket or purchase a hip mount case and carry it on your belt.

Why is the ORX Telescoping Shaft Special?

The ORX’s telescoping S rod is exceptionally lightweight. It can easily extend and adjust to fit the prospector. It also collapses so that it is simple to carry in a backpack. The entire weight of the ORX is just under 2 pounds.

Other metal detectors weigh as much as five pounds. That weight can tire you out when you are in the field. The lighter weight of the ORX makes this ideal for hours of detecting. It’s also great for hiking into more remote areas because it collapses to approximately 25 inches with the 9 inch X35 coil.

The S shaft is made for your comfort in mind and comes with a rubber hand grip that fits the contours of your hand with a better angle. The armrest has an adjustable velcro strap to help hold the stem to your forearm with lessened muscle fatigue.

Is the XP ORX Waterproof?

The XP ORX X35 nine-inch search coil and the MI 6 pinpointer are waterproof, ideal for searching beaches and riverbanks. The remote control is not waterproof and thus should be protected in a waterproof pouch when threatened by rain or intentional submersion.

XP ORX Vs. Equinox 800 – How Does the ORX Compare?

There are many differences between the ORX and the Equinox 800. One of the first things noted is the price difference. The ORX can be bought for under 700 dollars, while the Equinox 800 is closer to 1,00 dollars.

The Equinox 800 is waterproof up to ten feet. It is not a wireless device, but the display remote is larger than the ORX, making it easier to read. It comes with an 11-inch SmartCoil, suitable for general detecting needs.

At nearly three pounds, the Equinox weighs a bit more than the ORX, and the shaft of the 800 is not collapsible, so it will not be as easy to transport. Interestingly the Equinox 800 does come with wireless Bluetooth headphones instead of the wired headset of the ORX bundle.

According to The History Digger, the XP ORX is more sensitive to finds than the 800, and you can distinguish the tones more quickly as you learn them. He says the XP ORX is very durable, and the recovery speed when swinging the ORX is breakneck.
